Does your decision fit your role and the moment?

Use position, pressure, teammates, and the change of possession to rank the next useful action before the ball arrives.

On this phase

  • Start with the job your position has in that moment.
  • Scan for pressure, support, space, and the next danger.
  • Rank a first, second, and safety action before receiving.
  • Complete a 12-rep role-decision test today.

At the end: a 12-rep test that scores the read, the call, and the action for your actual role.

1Start with the role

Why can the same touch be right in one position and wrong in another?

The role changes what the first touch is for. A central player may need to protect the middle and connect the next pass. A wide player may be able to receive forward and attack space. A defender may first remove danger. The technique serves the job.

Before the rep, say the role and the job: six – protect and connect, eight – receive and progress, winger – threaten space, or defender – remove danger and build. Adjust those words to the team's real instructions.

2Read the picture

What information should change my choice?

Scan for information that changes the action. Where is the nearest pressure? Which teammate can support? Is there safe space ahead? What becomes dangerous if the ball is lost? A scan only matters when it changes the plan.

  1. Check the nearest pressure.
  2. Find one forward or progressive option.
  3. Find one support or safety option.
  4. Check the space the next action will open or leave.

3Rank the actions

How do I decide faster without rushing?

Prepare a first action, a second action, and a safety action. The first is the best useful option in the current picture. The second is ready if the first closes. The safety action protects the team when neither is available.

Call the ranking before receiving: one – forward, two – connect, three – protect. The exact actions change by role, but the order stops every touch becoming a fresh emergency.

When possession changes, update the first job immediately. This phase stays with role, support, space, and collective flow; it does not invent team pressing rules that belong to the coach's own system.

Can I make 12 role-fit decisions before the touch?

  1. Choose the one role you currently play most and write its first job in possession and after possession changes.
  2. Set three gates for a progressive action, support action, and safety action. Complete 12 receiving reps with a partner or wall.
  3. Before every pass arrives, scan and call one, two, or three. Complete the action through the matching gate.
  4. Score one point when the call fits the pressure picture, the body shape supports it, and the next action is completed under control.

Self-check: What was your score out of 12? For each miss, mark read, call, body shape, or execution. If the read and call were right but execution failed, keep the decision and train the technique.

Game intelligence is not collecting more options. It is seeing the picture early enough to choose an action that fits the role, the pressure, and what the team needs next.
