Specialist transformation · the distribution road · ages 11–16+

Does the ball leave you better than it arrived?

Passing is the skill coaches trust first: the driven shot pass, the switch, the open body, and the simple ball at the right moment.

1The gap

What this transformation closes

Every pass is a small decision about trust. Hit the standard passes cleanly — on both feet, from imperfect positions — and the coach gives you the ball more. This road builds the strike, the switch, and the judgement.

The pass that changes the level — session clip

SUGGESTION — one real shot-pass rep: bent body, locked ankle, ball arriving flat and fast at 20 metres. Then the same player's inside pass dying at 15. No commentary; the two ball flights are the story.

2The road

The phases, in order

Each phase is its own story page — read one, train it for a week, come back for the next.

  1. The Shot Pass

The driven laces pass higher-level coaches treat as a standard requirement — body shape, both feet, three distances.

  2. Switch the Play — coming

Coming next — changing the point of attack: the open body, the first touch that sets the switch, and when the far side is the right ball.

  3. The Pass-Ready Body — coming

Coming — open before the ball arrives, use the first touch to set up the pass, and keep the game flowing at one and two touches.

  4. Risk, Trust, and the Simple Ball — coming

Coming — the thin line between creative passing and turnovers, and why coaches stop trusting risky passers.

GENERATE — a young player mid driven pass at dusk, ball flying flat across the frame toward a distant teammate silhouette

3How to walk it

Where to start

Start with the Shot Pass — it is the requirement. The switch, the pass-ready body, and the risk judgement phases join the road as their session evidence is prepared.

4Try it today

Can you turn the idea into evidence today?

Ten shot passes each foot at 15–20 metres. Score only straightness and flight intensity. If fewer than half are good, stop, reset the body cues, and start the set again — bad reps train the wrong pass.

Skill gets applause. Distribution gets trust. Make the standard pass automatic and the harder passes earn their place.
